Georges Chakra
Creative Director, Co-Founder
Georges Chakra is an artist and couturier known for his approach to construction, embroidery and movement. A fashion and interior designer, sketch artist and painter, Chakra brings these different areas of creativity into his collections. With a strong attention to proportion and detail, his work is defined by fluid silhouettes, precise construction and an evolving approach to couture.
The story of the Maison began in Beirut. After graduating in Canada, Chakra returned to Lebanon during the Civil War and began working from the living room of his home, sketching, cutting and sewing the garments himself. What started as a small personal atelier gradually grew into Maison Georges Chakra, built around couture, artisanal knowledge and a deep attention to how a garment is made.
More than four decades later, those beginnings remain central to the Maison. Its identity has been shaped by years of work within the atelier, where techniques of draping, corsetry, tailoring and embroidery have been developed, refined and passed from one generation of artisans to the next. While the collections continue to evolve, this knowledge and understanding of the garment remain at the core of Georges Chakra.
In 2002, Georges Chakra presented his first Couture collection in Paris, bringing the work of the Beirut atelier to an international audience. Paris has since become an important part of the Maison’s story, with each Couture collection building on the knowledge of the atelier while introducing new ideas in silhouette, construction and technique.
From its beginnings in a small Beirut atelier to its Couture presentations in Paris, Georges Chakra has remained grounded in the same principles: precision, experimentation and the preservation of couture knowledge. Today, the Maison continues to evolve its codes through silhouette, construction, embroidery and detail, while remaining rooted in the heritage and savoir-faire of the atelier where it began.
Jocelyne Abdel Malak
CEO, Co-Founder
Co-founder Jocelyne Abdel Malak, has been President of luxury fashion house Georges Chakra since 1993. Jocelyne played a crucial role creating a business model fitting for Georges Chakra’s design aesthetic and that has paved the way for the Georges Chakra Company to develop into the international couture house that it is today.
After graduating from USJ Beirut with a degree in Business Management, Jocelyne joined the International Committee of the Red Cross as reporting war on atrocities for 3 years, moving then to Paris and then to Canada in 1978 to establish Aramex International.
Fascinated by the fashion industry since childhood, Jocelyne left Canada after meeting Georges Chakra to co-found a Beirut office for the Company in 1993. The luxury fashion brand has since then moved offices to Beirut and established a Paris office as well as point of sales in the United States. "Georges chakra runs in a world where everyone walks. And we are all running behind him trying to keep up" Jocelyne says. With two Couture shows during Paris fashion week, Jocelyne keeps pushing the luxury fashion brand into recognizing its full potential.
